Pregnancy is a time of joy and also a time of wondering what has happened to feeling comfortable. Many don't realize that they could enjoy a pregnancy massage to take away some of the discomfort and to get the relaxation that many moms to be need so very badly. Women often rely on their obstetrician for advice, and some do not tell women that this is something that could make them feel a lot better during the last months of pregnancy.

Pregnancy massage is a lot like regular massage, but it is done by someone who specializes in pregnant women. As you can imagine, you can not lay on your stomach when getting a massage, so a place that does these types of massages has a table that will allow space for the stomach without discomfort to the baby. These pregnancy massages can last as long as regular massages, and can do a world of good. Not only do these help with aches and pains, they also help with relaxation. A mom who is expecting her second or third child may need this massage simply to wash away some stress.

One of the biggest problems that pregnant women report is pain in the mid and lower back. This is because the spine will bend in naturally as the uterus gets heavier and heavier. This happens with each pregnancy, but some women handle this better than others. If a woman is already carrying some extra weight before she is pregnant, she may have a harder time with the extra weight that forms quite rapidly in the stomach near the middle and end of her pregnancy. This is when pregnancy massage and relaxation can help the most. It won't take care of the problem, but it can help ease straining muscles that are struggling to keep up with the body.

When going for massage while pregnant, be sure to be clear about what is wrong and why you feel you need massage. That helps the therapist know exactly where to work and what they are trying to accomplish. If you have severe pain in the back and even hips, you may want to see a chiropractor before you go for pregnancy massage. At times, these folks are in the same company or have referrals so that you can go from one to the other for the best results. If your spine is out of place, you should have that fixed before you get a massage. Together, these tools can really help you feel better.

If you feel pregnancy massage will be good for you, talk to your OB about it. If you are not sure where to go yet, they may have some suggestions and cautions for you. Remember that you want to find someone who is use to working with the pregnant body and that can address your specific needs. If your OB does not have any suggestions, open your phone book or look online for people in your area. Contact each one until you find someone with whom you feel comfortable. Ask specifically for someone that specializes in pregnancy and that is not to busy to get you in when you feel you need relief the most.
